Virginia
Commonwealth University offers an MD/MHA program, a dual
degree that combines two existing professional degrees. This
program is one of the few in the United States that recognizes
leadership and management tools needed for clinicians in the
existing health care economy. Why
get this training early in your medical career? The
integration of administrative functions with clinical domains
is necessary to deliver the most efficient and highest quality
care. Literature
shows that as health care organizations emerge and reshape themselves
in response to environmental pressures, physicians will be sought
to lead these organizations.
This
dual degree is a five-year program. The
first three years are completed in medical school coursework. Year
four will be completed entirely in the Department of Health
Administration. Year
five will consist of a combination of medical school electives
and courses in health administration. A
medical student interested in this program is advised to apply
during the second or third year of medical school.
Please
express your interest in this program by checking "yes" on
the supplemental application. More
information will be sent to you at a later date. Should
you have specific questions, you may contact:
